When people ask about the types of AI they often mix two different questions: how capable is it, and how does it work. Keeping them apart makes the whole topic much clearer.
Below is a simple map of both, with honest notes on what is real today and what is still a research goal.
AI is usually grouped by capability into narrow AI (one task, what exists today), general AI (human-level across tasks, not yet achieved) and superintelligence (hypothetical). It is also grouped by method, such as machine learning and generative AI.
By capability: narrow, general, super
Narrow AI does one kind of job well: recommending a product, reading a plate number, translating text. Every AI product available today is narrow, even when it seems broad. General AI, often called AGI, would learn and reason across any field at roughly human level. It has not been built, and experts disagree about when or whether it will be. Superintelligence would exceed humans and remains hypothetical.
- Narrow AI: real, widely used, limited to its training and tools.
- General AI (AGI): a research goal, not a product you can buy.
- Superintelligence: a concept discussed in research and ethics, not a current technology.
By method: machine learning and deep learning
Machine learning is the main approach: systems learn from data instead of fixed rules. Deep learning is a branch that uses many-layered neural networks and powers speech recognition, image analysis and modern language tools.
Generative AI versus predictive AI
Predictive AI estimates something, such as the chance a customer cancels. Generative AI creates new content such as text, images or code. Both are narrow AI, and both can be wrong, so outputs need review.
- Predictive: forecasts, scoring, fraud flags, recommendations.
- Generative: drafts, images, translations, code suggestions.
Which type matters for your website
For a business site you will almost always use narrow AI, either generative (writing, answering) or predictive (recommendations). With Uttra you can describe it simply:
"Add a product page for my abaya shop with a box where visitors describe the occasion and get three suggestions from my catalogue, with prices in SAR."
