Apple Pay shortens checkout to a single tap with Face ID, which matters a lot on mobile where typing card details is the main reason people leave. For most small stores it is one of the easiest conversion improvements.
You do not apply to Apple directly in most cases. Your payment gateway handles the merchant certificates, and you complete a few checks on your side.
Apple Pay works through a payment gateway that supports it. You enable it in the gateway dashboard, verify your domain, serve the site over HTTPS, and test on a real iPhone or Safari.
What you need first
Apple Pay is not a standalone tool. It sits on top of a gateway, so confirm these basics before anything else:
- A payment gateway account that lists Apple Pay for your country and business type.
- A live domain that you own, served over HTTPS.
- Cards in the customer's Apple Wallet that your gateway can process, for example mada in Saudi Arabia.
Enable it in your gateway
Open the gateway dashboard and look for Apple Pay under payment methods. Some gateways turn it on instantly, others ask you to submit a request or accept extra terms. If you cannot find the option, contact the provider and ask whether Apple Pay is available for your account.
Verify your domain
Apple requires you to prove you control the domain that shows the button. The gateway gives you a small verification file. It must be reachable at a specific path under /.well-known/ on your domain, with no redirect.
With Uttra, publish the site on your own domain first, then ask in chat: “Add this verification file at the path my payment provider asked for, and make sure it is public.” Apple Pay will not verify on a preview address, so use the final domain.
Test before announcing it
The button only appears on supported devices, mainly Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac with a card in Wallet. Test on a real device, not just a desktop browser.
- Check the button appears on the product and checkout pages.
- Run a sandbox payment if your gateway offers one, then one small real payment.
- Confirm the order is saved and the customer gets a confirmation.
