Word of mouth is already your strongest channel, especially in the Gulf where recommendations travel through WhatsApp groups and family circles. A referral and loyalty program just gives that habit a structure, a reason and a way to measure it.
You do not need an app or complex software. A simple program that customers understand in five seconds will outperform a clever one nobody remembers.
Give each customer a personal code, reward both the person who refers and the friend who joins, and keep the rules to one sentence. Start with a simple discount before building points.
Referral and loyalty are two different tools
A referral program brings new customers: existing ones share a code and both sides get a reward. A loyalty program brings the same customers back: they collect stamps, points or tiers and redeem them. Start with one, usually referral, and add the other once orders are steady.
Design the offer
Decide what you can afford before you decide what to promise. Work out your profit per new customer, and set the reward well below it.
- Reward both sides: for example, a discount for the friend and a credit for the referrer after the friend's first paid order.
- Prefer credit or a free service over cash. It brings people back.
- Set simple limits: one reward per new customer, an expiry date, a minimum order.
- Write the rule in one sentence a customer can forward on WhatsApp.
Give every customer a personal code
A short code that includes the customer's name, such as SARA20, is easy to share and easy to track. Put it on the order confirmation, the receipt, the thank-you message and a dedicated page on your site. When a new customer enters it at checkout or the booking form, you know exactly who sent them.
For a small business, a spreadsheet with code, owner, uses and reward status is enough to start. Move to something automated when you handle more than a few dozen codes a month.
Make sharing effortless
Most referrals happen on a phone, so add a Share on WhatsApp button that opens a pre-written message with the code and your link. Ask at the right moment, right after a good experience, and remind customers once, not weekly.
Be honest in the message and the terms. Be clear on what the reward is, when it is given, and what data you keep. If you store phone numbers, get consent and follow Saudi PDPL or your local data rules.
Build it with Uttra
Try a prompt like: Add a page called Invite a friend where a customer enters their name and gets a personal code, with a Share on WhatsApp button, and add a field for a referral code on my booking form. Preview it, adjust the wording by chat, then publish on your subdomain or your own domain.
