How do I start email marketing for my small business?

A practical way to start email marketing: build a list with clear consent, send a welcome email, and keep a simple weekly or monthly rhythm.

Social platforms change their reach overnight, but an email list is an audience you own. For a small business in the Gulf, it is also the cheapest way to bring past customers back before Ramadan, White Friday or National Day.

You do not need a big tool stack. You need a place to collect addresses, a promise about what people will receive, and a rhythm you can keep for six months.

Start with one signup form on your site, one welcome email and one fixed sending day. A small list that opted in clearly beats a large list you bought.

Collect addresses with clear consent

Saudi Arabia's personal data law (PDPL) expects people to agree knowingly to receive marketing. So never import a bought list or add customers who only gave you their email for an invoice.

Put a short form where people already show interest and say what they get and how often. Add an unticked consent box and a link to your privacy page.

  • Footer of every page: email field plus one sentence about what to expect.
  • Checkout or booking form: an optional, unticked newsletter box.
  • A small incentive tied to your business, such as a guide, a sample or early access to offers.

Build the form with Uttra

Describe it in chat, for example: Add a newsletter section above the footer with an email field, a consent checkbox and a thank-you message, in Arabic and English. Check it in the live preview, then click the heading to adjust the wording.

Publish, and connect the form to whichever email service you choose so new addresses land in one list.

Send three emails first

Do not start with a monthly promotion. Set up a short sequence that runs on its own:

  • Welcome email, sent immediately: who you are, what to expect, one helpful link.
  • Day 3: your most useful tip or your best-selling product story.
  • Day 7: a soft offer or an invitation to reply with a question.

Keep a rhythm and measure it

Choose one day, for example Thursday, and send every two weeks at first. Consistency matters more than frequency. Plan extra sends around Ramadan, Founding Day, National Day and White Friday, and warn subscribers early so offers do not surprise them.

Watch only three numbers: open rate, clicks and unsubscribes. If unsubscribes jump, your subject lines promise more than the content delivers.

Common questions

None. Send your welcome email to the first subscriber. A list of fifty interested people often outperforms thousands of cold addresses.

WhatsApp is great for quick replies, but it works best for people who asked to hear from you there. Email suits longer content, receipts and guides. Many businesses use both.

The language the subscriber signed up in. If your site is bilingual, ask for a language preference in the form and send each person one version.

Try it on your own project

Describe what you want in your own words and watch your site or system get built — then change it by chatting.
